History will thunder back to life in Staffordshire this summer as the Big Battle of Abbots Bromley returns with one of the largest living history events in the region.
Taking place on Sunday 21 June 2026 at High Ash Farm in Abbots Bromley, the event will bring together more than 200 reenactors from over 10 leading living history groups for a full day of immersive history, education and family entertainment.
Visitors will be transported through nearly a thousand years of history, from 1066 to the Second World War, with authentic encampments, interactive demonstrations and dramatic full scale battle recreations set within the Staffordshire countryside.
Among the highlights of the day will be major Napoleonic battle displays, alongside an impressive and rarely seen range of American historical reenactment in the UK. Throughout the event, the sights and sounds of the past will fill the field, with live cannon and musket firing, marching troops and historically accurate portrayals of civilian life across different periods.
A full day of history and family fun
The public event takes place from 10am on Sunday 21 June 2026, in the field near Cobwebs Coffee Shop at High Ash Farm, Yeatsall Lane, Abbots Bromley.
Alongside the battlefield action, the event offers plenty for families and younger visitors to enjoy. A wide variety of living history camps and demonstrations will be open throughout the day, with reenactors on hand to talk about historic uniforms, weapons and daily life.
Children will be able to take part in an interactive drill session, while families can also join a hands on history activity with the Texian Army, attempting to capture a Mexican cannon. There will also be the opportunity to have a family portrait taken in 1830s Mexican costume.
Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day, including a BBQ, ice cream van, local stalls and children’s amusements, helping to create a lively summer festival atmosphere alongside the historical displays.
Building on a growing success
The event is hosted by Lee Chapman of Chappers Photography and builds on the success of the Abbots Bromley Living History Festival, which attracted over 500 visitors in 2024. The 2026 event is set to be even bigger, featuring one of the largest living history displays in the UK this summer.
“This event is all about bringing history to life in a way that is exciting, educational and memorable for all ages. We’re thrilled to be welcoming so many high-quality reenactment groups to Abbots Bromley for what promises to be an incredible day.”
