Twelve priority projects have been identified as part of Stoke-on-Trent’s ambitious plan for growth, jobs and improved opportunities across the city.

The projects form the first phase of the delivery plan for Future 100, the city’s economic prospectus which was presented at 10 Downing Street earlier this year. Future 100 sets out a programme designed to secure growth, improve transport, strengthen skills, regenerate the city and support healthier communities.

The initial twelve projects have been selected by the city partnership, which brings together leaders from public, private and voluntary organisations across Stoke-on-Trent. They are intended to reflect the schemes expected to have the greatest impact on local jobs and opportunity, with many requiring targeted government investment to unlock rapid progress.

The Twelve Priority Projects

The initial phase of delivery focuses on the following key areas:

  1. A50 and A500 Investment Plan: Aiming to create 39,000 jobs and 70,000 new homes along this key growth corridor.
  2. Key Growth Sectors: Rapid expansion in advanced manufacturing, digital, and creative industries.
  3. Ceramics Industry Support: Focused investment in clean technology for the city’s heritage industry.
  4. Bus Rapid Transit Network: A metro-style system featuring zero-emission buses and smart ticketing.
  5. Chatterley Whitfield Eco-Park: Development of an energy system, AI growth zone, and datacentre at the historic site.
  6. Housing Land Fund: A dedicated fund to reclaim and develop brownfield sites.
  7. City Centre Regeneration: Broad revitalisation of the city’s central hub.
  8. Heritage & UNESCO Status: Continued rescue of international heritage assets and progress toward UNESCO Creative City status.
  9. Educational Attainment: Developing new vocational pathways for young people aged 14 and over.
  10. Strengthening Communities Programme: Direct investment to improve lives in the most deprived neighbourhoods.
  11. Work and Health Programme: Early intervention to support residents staying in employment despite ill health.
  12. Family Matters: Increased investment in early-years support and key services for children.
“Future 100 set out an ambitious but realistic plan to tackle our economic, social and environmental challenges. These twelve projects give us a clear focus for delivery. They will drive jobs, unlock investment, improve skills and support strong communities. We are now working with our partners to turn these priorities into action.”

Jane Ashworth, Leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council
