Children from Stoke-on-Trent could enjoy free outdoor school holiday activities as Staffordshire Wildlife Trust hopes to win funding to run Forest School-style sessions at Hem Heath Woods, Trentham.

The charity is asking local shoppers to vote for their project so more children can enjoy playing outside. The proposed agenda for the sessions includes:

  • Den building
  • Natural crafts
  • Bug hunting
  • Campfire cooking

Children could also climb trees and generally get a bit mucky! These sessions are designed to be suitable for children of all ages.

“If you're shopping at Tesco, please vote for us using the blue tokens! We'd love more children to have the chance to connect with nature and play in this beautiful woodland.

“Playing outdoors has huge benefits for children’s mental health and wellbeing. Connecting with nature from a young age is proven to increase our ability to deal with stress and boosts confidence.”

Aimee Beardmore, Wildchild and Engagement Lead for Staffordshire Wildlife Trust
