Residents, locals and heritage enthusiasts are invited to attend the next meeting of the Burslem History Club on Wednesday 11 March 2026, when former Member of Parliament Joan Walley will give a talk exploring the heritage buildings of Burslem and the latest developments surrounding their future.
The talk will take place at The Old Post Office on Wedgwood Street and will offer an insight into the rich architectural heritage of one of the Potteries’ historic towns.
Burslem is home to a remarkable collection of heritage buildings, including landmarks such as:
- Burslem Town Hall
- Queen's Hall
- Burslem School of Art
- The Old Post Office Burslem
- The Wedgwood Institute
The town also features notable interwar buildings including the former Duke William pub and the historic Co-operative Building in Swan Square.
During the talk, Joan Walley will reflect on what these buildings have meant to local communities and consider whether their preservation is realistic.
"Joan Walley has long been a passionate advocate for Burslem and the wider Potteries area. Her talk will share both historical context and forward-looking ideas for how heritage can play a central role in the town’s regeneration."
The meeting will take place at The Old Post Office, Wedgwood Street, Burslem. Doors open at 6.45pm, with the talk beginning at 7.30pm. Admission is £3, payable on the door, and all are welcome.
The Burslem History Club is run by Mervyn Edwards.
